Amelie Wamba, Coordinator of Gene Drive Project, Attends Cohort II of the Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) Course for Senior Health Leaders in Cameroon
Dr. Amelie Wamba, Coordinator of the Gene Drive Project was nominated by the PAMCA’s Women in Vector Control Program to take part in the Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) course for Senior Health Leaders that took place between April 2024- October 2024. The LMG course for Senior Health Leaders is a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing the capabilities of health professionals in Cameroon. Offered in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and conducted by Strathmore University in Kenya, this course is meticulously designed to equip participants with essential leadership and management skills tailored to the complexities of the global health landscape. Recognizing the critical need for effective leadership in health systems, the course covers a wide range of topics, including strategic planning, resource management, and governance frameworks. Participants engage in interactive learning experiences, case studies, and group discussions that foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among senior health leaders.
This comprehensive curriculum encompasses a range of critical areas, including Introduction to Leadership and Management in Global Health, Health Systems Strengthening, Policy Development and Advocacy, Strategic Planning, Financial Management for Health Programs, Monitoring and Evaluation, Human Resources for Health, Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Team Building and Conflict Resolution, Project Management, Health Promotion and Community Engagement, Leadership in Action, and Gender Equity and Gender Mainstreaming.
Each module emphasizes practical applications and strategies that empower health professionals to effectively navigate the complexities of global health challenges. The course aims to prepare health leaders to address intricate health issues and improve health outcomes in their communities and beyond. Conducted in various countries, including Cameroon, Cohort II specifically focused on building the capacity of health professionals and leaders across different regions of the country. By integrating essential skills tailored to local health challenges, including a strong emphasis on gender equity and mainstreaming, the course enhances health systems and outcomes in the Cameroonian context, fostering inclusive and equitable health solutions.
The program not only focuses on theoretical knowledge but also emphasizes practical applications, enabling participants to implement learned strategies in their respective health sectors. By cultivating a network of skilled leaders, the LMG course aims to strengthen health systems in Cameroon and improve health outcomes for communities, particularly in the fight against malaria and other public health challenges. Through this initiative, participants like Amelie are empowered to take on leadership roles, drive change, and contribute to the overall improvement of health governance.
During the training, Amelie served as the focus discussion lead where she effectively facilitated discussions making sure that the team's strategies were well-organized and aligned with their goals. According to Dr. Amelie the training has equipped her with essential leadership and management skills that will enhance her ability to address global health challenges. The knowledge and experiences gained from the course have not only bolstered her confidence but also inspired her to implement innovative strategies within her role at PAMCA. She added that she is committed to leveraging the skills and insights from the course to drive positive change in vector control and improve public health outcomes in her community and beyond.
