Women in Vector Control Workshop

21-22 September, 2019 | Hilton Hotel, Yaoundé, Cameroon

This program is supported with funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Theme :Strengthening the Role of Women in the Control of Vector Borne Diseases

Women are often key agents of change in programs to combat public health challenges, including Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs). Advancing their participation in disease management and promoting their leadership involvement in the workplace can contribute to better control of VBDs.

The Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) is an African professional body that brings together actors in the field of vectors and vector-borne disease control. PAMCA exists to provide a platform for capacity building, knowledge sharing and collaboration for concerted vector control initiatives in the African continent. There is need to build capacity in women leaders in vector control in Africa. PAMCA will conduct a mentorship workshop that brings together senior and young women in the field of vector control. The 2-day workshop will explore gaps and challenges including soft skills and technical knowledge that hinder leadership capabilities and visibility of African women in vector control.

The workshop seeks to enhance the confidence and capabilities of women by elaborating on the building of strong personal relationships and scientific goals through networks and partnership and by exploring practical skills and tools such as leadership, work ethics and communication.

Workshop Objectives

  1. Conduct a situation gap analysis of women participation in the control of VBDs.
  2. Develop practical tools that enable visibility of women in vector control in Africa.
  3. Develop a structured programme for strengthening the capacity of WIVC in Africa.
